Black Librarianship refers to the practice and advocacy of librarianship within the context of Black intellect, culture history, and community. It emphasizes the creation and maintenance of intellectual infrastructures that enhance the visibility and accessibility of Black materials in libraries. This field recognizes the robust intellectual wealth and creativity inherent in Black literature, art, and culture, and it plays a vital role in shaping and preserving these contributions. Black librarianship also emphasizes the suppression, theft, and minimization of Black thought and the rights of Black people in libraries, and aims to rectify these injustices.

Black librarianship also serves as a platform for impact, connection, and advocacy, promoting literacy and resisting systemic barriers. Through trailblazing efforts, Black librarians foster spaces of cultural expression and knowledge sharing, ensuring that Black voices are represented and celebrated within the broader narrative of library and information sciences.
